High protein diet scam and 3 alternative weight loss recipes

If you’re struggling to lose weight in time for summer, then you might be tempted to try out one of the more extreme fad diets currently in fashion. And, if you believe the hype surrounding the high protein diet then you could be expecting to lose as much as 15 kilos a month. Unfortunately, the success rate for this costly and potentially dangerous diet is depressingly low and you’re therefore likely to be left both sorely disappointed and extremely out of pocket.

The high protein diet works by avoiding solids (at least in the first stage) and triggering a state known as ‘ketosis’ in order to burn fat and limit your appetite. However, most nutritionists concur that this diet cannot provide your body with adequate levels of nutrition and that those who try it are usually unable to maintain their weight loss once they stop. The high protein diet is associated with a long list of unpleasant side effects too, including headaches, irritability, nausea, kidney trouble and heart palpitations and it can lead to an erratic metabolism, raised cholesterol levels and even renal failure, osteoporosis and cancer.

The superfood diet is a far safer alternative to the high protein diet or indeed any other fad diet. The superfood diet works by enhancing your existing eating and exercise regime with a range of powerful superfoods, which are naturally rich in fat burning nutrients.

Each of the three delicious weight loss recipes below will not only help you to look good in your bikini this year, they’ll make sure that you don’t fall prey to the latest high protein diet scam.

Amazing acai fat busting breakfast smoothie
Acai berries are small purple berries from the Amazon that are high in fibre and essential fatty acids, which help us to process food more quickly, reduce our sugar cravings and actively boost our metabolism. This exotic and exceptionally nutritious breakfast smoothie will help get your diet off to the perfect start and quickly result in the type of weight loss that simply cannot be sustained on a high protein diet.

– 1 tablespoon of acai powder
– 1/2 a fresh mango
– 1/2 a banana
– ¼ of a pineapple
– 1-2 tablespoons of maca powder
– 1-2 teaspoons of agave syrup
– 1 scoop of Vital Whey natural protein
– 1 cup of water
– ice

First chop the fruit into small, manageable chunks and then place with the remaining ingredients into your blender. Blitz for around 30 seconds or until nice and smooth. Serve in a tall glass and garnish with some leftover pineapple.

Dried African mango and goat’s cheese slimming salad
Wild African mango is packed with soluble fibre and a range of ingredients that are scientifically proven to boost metabolism and regulate our appetite. Say ‘goodbye’ to unhealthy high protein diets forever, with this fresh and fruity salad that’s ready in a jiffy.

For the salad
– 100 grams of salad leaves
– 100 grams of organic goat cheese
– 5-6 small tomatoes
– 1 handful of walnuts
– 1 handful of pine nuts
– 1 handful of dried African mango pieces

For the dressing
– a dash of olive oil
– a splash of red wine vinegar
– 1 teaspoon of raw honey
– salt and pepper to taste

First prepare your dressing by blending the olive oil, red wine vinegar, a teaspoon of raw honey and some salt (preferably Himalayan pink salt) and pepper to taste. Next rinse and chop your salad ingredients. Place these into a large salad bowl, add the dried mango and nuts and crumble in the goat’s cheese. Finally pour over the salad dressing and toss briefly before serving.

Bulge banishing banana ice cream with spirulina
Research has revealed spirulina to be a powerful natural appetite suppressant that can be used to control food cravings and combat obesity. This irresistible ice cream simply couldn’t be any easier to prepare and is far more tempting than any protein substitute drink found on the high protein diet plan!

– 1 teaspoon of spirulina powder
– 4 bananas
– 1-2 tablespoons of desiccated coconut

Banana and spirulina icecream

First peel three of your bananas and place them into the freezer and leave overnight. Next, remove the bananas from the freezer and allow to slightly thaw for around 5 minutes at room temperature. Break into pieces and pop them, together with a freshly peeled banana, into your blender. Add a teaspoon of spirulina powder and blitz until your ice cream boasts a deep, mint green colour. Scoop into dessert bowls and sprinkle liberally with desiccated coconut.
